Another year has ended and, as usual at this time of year, my sentimental self is making an appearance. I didnt realise what an awesome place Sydney is until it hit me that I wouldn't be home to celebrate the coming of the New Year amidst the celebratory atmosphere that engulfs Sydney on the 31st of December. I found myself asking everyone here what they were doing for New Years Eve, where they would be partying, if there were any fireworks shows on, and then finally "Why isn't New Years Eve a big deal here????" Maybe Im just used to the whole shebang of the Sydney Harbour being lit up at midnight, the phone lines being tied up with everyone trying to call through to loved ones with wishes for the new year, my dad going through the house turning on every single light at 12:00, being able to see the West Penno fireworks from the front veranda, and most of all.. SPARKLERS. So used to all these things in fact, that to not have any of them (not even distant fireworks to look at or a party popper to pop) made me extremely homesick for Sydney. For serious, you should have seen my reaction when Brandon told me Sparklers only come around for 4th of July. Why not have them year round at the grocery store for 89c like they do at Castle Towers Food 4 Less??
ANYways, needless to say, my New Years Eve 2007 was quite uneventful and somewhat depressing. After spending a night trying to call home over and over again to talk to my parents, my brother, my sister, and my grandmother to no avail, and then finidng out my "best friend" is engaged to a girl he's only been with for 2 months or so, you cant blame me for getting a little tear in my eye when I found out I wouldn't even get to write my name in the air with a sparkler. Although I was surrounded by family and friends and did have a good time, it was nothing compared to what I wished it was.
After spending the day packing and moving out of the apartment I went to Brandon's parents house where I watched The Da Vinci Code on their cable. Then Brandon and I went to Kuya Ross's house and had dinner.

Then we watched Little Man and Jackass 2 with the cousins andKuya Pojack made me take tequila shots with him. After the third time I heard him say "last one" as he refilled the shot glass I knew he was just trying to get me drunk for his own amusement. [And I think the girls would be proud to know that I didnt chunder this time. It was not a replay of Pontoon Bar. Did I ever thank you for holding my hair that night Jules? Hahaha] At 11:55pm we turned the tv to a replay of the ball dropping in New York, counted down from 10 seconds to midnight, and said Happy New Year. And that was that. No annoying (but well missed) party noise makers/blowers, no blinding lights in every room of the house, and no sparklers. But atleast I had the company of family and friends.

Happy 2007 Everyone.
Happy 2007 Sydney.
