The Capitol

Suzie, one of my closest friends from High School, was on a one month tour of the States and found a few days in her holiday to come to D.C. to hang with me. Since Clare works on the Hill for a Congressman, she hooked us up with passes and took us on a tour of inside the Capitol building (including some places i dont think we were supposed to see).

To start the tour off we met Clare at the Congressman's office so we could drop off our bags and get out tickets. Congressman wasn't in, so we took some pictures in his office, looking all important and stuff.

Since Clare was our tour guide we got to take our time looking around. In the center of the Capitol is a white stone that marks the center of Washington DC. I wanted to do a gay holiding hands around the stone picture, ala the simpsons, but there were too many people around waiting to take their picture so we couldnt...

The high point of the day for both Suzie and I was walking through a gauntlet of Capitol Policemen to get to the Capitol Subway (a subway underneath the Capitol building constructed to shuttle Members from the Senate to the House). I wasnt sure if we were allowed ton this subway, and neither was Clare, but we were like "What the heck" and tried our luck, hoping not to get arrested. After walking through the gauntlet of police, Clare realised we were on the wrong side of the Capitol and that we had to turn around and go back...back through all the cops. Well, Shit. So we hurried back trying not to get noticed... a little hard when theres 5 of you in casual clothing, 4 of whom are wearing big stickers saying TOUR on them. But we made it to the right side and into the subway tunnel...

Here are a few other highlights of the day...

Nancy Pelosi's Office
(not the main one. When I peaked my head around the corner to try and see her Main Office, the security guard told me off. What is it with me a pissing security guards off?)

After the tour we all went to dinner at a mexican restaurant just off Capital South called "Tortilla Coast".
