Gallavanting in D.C

With only 2 weeks left before my program in D.C. ends I really needed to crack down and get through my list of things I want to see while I'm here., so on the weekend I crossed a few more things off...

FRIDAY
I have a half day on Friday so after work and going home to get changed Brandon and I went to the Holocaust Museum, seomwhere Ive been wanting to go since we arrived.

This is what the D.C. Subways look like.
Nothing like Sydney's Cityrail trains. The trains here have only one level, but the carriages are really long.

This picture was taken before we went inside.

I wasn't sure if I should have been smiling or not considering what the museum was remembering. It was an interesting place, but I felt super depressed when I got out. I had to go window shopping to cheer myself up.

SATURDAY
Saturday was a big day. It was sunny and warmer than usual and we were supposed to spend the day in all the Smithsonians but we wanted to take advantage of the nice weather and do some outdoorsy stuff. We woke up (kind of) early and took the train to Union Station. The architecture was beautiful with statues all around the West Hall and fake palm trees all around the East Hall. There were also a few stores and fancy looking restaurants around.

After Union Station we walked to the Capitol. Even though I've already had a tour of the inside, I hadn't actually gone to see it up close from the outside. It's located at one end of the National Mall, which is book-ended by the Washington monument. On the walk over we took some random pictures with statues and the Capitol in the background.

I found a lectern and gave a very important speech to some very important people (passing by)... and yes Kuya... that is a giant coke in my hand. Why can I hear you chuckling at me?

After visiting the Capitol we walked over to the Native American Smithsonian. We had lunch in the restaurant there where they serve traditional Native American dishes. We had buffalo, salmon, stewed lima beans, clam pudding, and wild rice. The buffalo was the best.

We didn't have long to look around the whole museum before it shut, but I saw enough to think that Native Americans are cool. I liked all their hand made clothing and bead jewellery. And this woven boat was amazing.

Milo and Chris met us after the museum and we went to a Asian place to have sushi. But not before I took some artsy fartsy pictures of the boys...
